Manual Options

These are manual steps for the original article. Nothing opens or changes automatically. Reading modes simplify text already received; disabling scripts cannot recover text withheld for subscribers and may make a page less usable.

Browser reader

Open the original article. In desktop Chrome, right-click and choose Open in reading mode. In Safari, use the page menu and Show Reader; in Firefox, use the Reader View icon if available. In Edge, try the reading icon or F9. Controls vary by version and may be unavailable. Use the same control again to leave the reading view. Compare the ending, captions and continuation links with the original; a clean layout does not prove the full article is present.

Temporarily disable JavaScript: Chrome and Edge

  1. Keep this guide open separately. On the original article in a desktop browser, right-click and choose Inspect.
  2. With Developer Tools focused, press Ctrl+Shift+P (Windows/Linux) or Command+Shift+P (Mac).
  3. Find Disable JavaScript (Edge may add [Debugger]), select it and reload the article while Developer Tools stays open.
  4. Check the paragraphs, not just the headline. If text or navigation disappears, restore JavaScript immediately.
  5. In the same command menu choose Enable JavaScript, then reload. In Chrome, closing Developer Tools also ends this temporary setting; explicitly enabling it before closing is a clear way to restore normal browsing.

Safari and mobile cautions

On Mac, Safari’s Settings → Security → Enable JavaScript checkbox affects other pages too. Prefer Reader first. If you change this checkbox, enable it again afterwards and reload. Keep security warnings enabled. Mobile browsers and Firefox have different controls; do not assume the desktop steps apply or install an unknown extension.

Other access options

If only a preview appears, check for a publisher gift link, a free article allowance, library access or a subscription. Respect publisher rights and service terms. None of these manual steps guarantees access or retrieves text that the publisher did not send.
