What are soft, metered and hard paywalls?
Soft paywalls
The article may already be loaded behind an overlay. A saved copy or browser reading settings can sometimes help.
Metered paywalls
A publisher limits the number of articles you can read. Check for an archived copy or library access.
Hard paywalls
The full article is only sent to authorised subscribers.
An archived page can still contain a paywall. A confidence rating is an estimate, never a promise.
Does this work with every article?
No. We bring together archives, text readers, translation, public-copy searches and browser methods. Availability depends on the publisher and the copies that exist.
What do High Chance and Medium Chance mean?
High Chance means a checked page contains substantial article-like text without an obvious paywall message. Medium Chance means a candidate returned but completeness is unverified. An archive match can confirm a saved page without confirming full text. These are estimates, not measured success percentages.
Why are the options numbered?
Fixed order: PrintFriendly, Clean Reader, Wayback, Archive.today, Jina, Googlebot, Google Translate, Google/Bing searches, smry, Ghostarchive, Arquivo.pt, research lookup, publisher sources, then Manual Options. Confidence selects bulk candidates without changing this order.
How do the multiple-tab options work?
Try Most Likely Options opens promising candidates from different services. Try All Options attempts every available route and skips confirmed DNS failures. Checks are bounded and may use cached evidence. Your browser may block some tabs; direct links remain available.

Will an ad block access to the article?
You never need to click an ad to use an option. Checks run immediately, with progress shown alongside the options. Google-managed anchor and full-screen ads have their own dismiss controls. External reading services have their own advertising policies.
Can it change my browser settings?
Follow the guide on the original article; no settings change automatically.
Is it free? Do I need an account?
PaywallRemover is free to use and needs no account or installation. External services set their own terms and may require an account, a browser check or a subscription.
What happens to my article links?
Requested checks send the URL to publishers or external providers. When operator analytics is enabled, submitted links, option interactions and technical visitor information are retained for up to 30 days in a protected dashboard. Newly checked article text stays in browser memory for up to 120 seconds and is discarded when the lookup is cleared, changed or expires; it is not stored persistently. Publisher cookies stay in memory only during one reader fetch and are then cleared. Our local reader removes the source link from its address bar before requesting text. Can I save an article to an archive?
Yes. After entering a URL, choose the option to save a new archive copy. You decide whether to submit it to Wayback Machine or Archive.today. We never automatically create a snapshot. Archives can only save content they can access.
Why is there an advertising area?
Advertising can help cover the cost of keeping this tool free. Ads are separated from reading controls and are only enabled after account and privacy configuration. Using an option never requires clicking an advertisement.
